Musical Director
The band’s Musical Director is Dr. Graham Brand.
Hailing from Wrexham, Graham learned the ropes of banding in the Wrexham county schools band, Llay Welfare Band and Llangollen Silver Band, before competing at the highest levels with Wrexham Brass.
He first came to Aberystwyth as a Biochemistry student in 2005 and has been a stalwart of the horn section (and regular soloist with the band) since then. Over the years Graham has put in stints as band Secretary, Librarian and Deputy MD, before being promoted to Musical Director in 2019.
Graham leads a busy musical life as he continues to lead the (French) horn sections in Aberystwyth’s Philomusica and the University Concert Band. An enthusiastic fan of all kinds of music, Graham hopes to organise varied programs covering all kinds of music – from traditional marches to big band-style jazz; from classical transcriptions and original works for band to rock and roll and pop!
